Up Next on Toast Meets Jam – Michelle Edgar!

An Interview with Michelle Edgar, Founder and CEO The XX Project

Coming up next on Toast Meets Jam… Michelle Edgar,  founder and CEO of The XX Project.

Imagine getting the chance to sit down and enjoy dinner alongside some of today’s top female entrepreneurs and  business leaders. Women like StyleHaul’s founder Stephanie Horbaczewski, GE’s CMO Beth Comstock, and journalist Soledad O’Brian. That would pretty amazing right?

Michelle Edgar thinks so too. As the strategic business development director for FRUKT and founder of the non-profit organization Music Unites , she recognized a need in the market to connect professional and entrepreneurial women. Her answer to that need was The XX Project, an invitation-only group for professional women who are leaders and mentors in their industries.

At the heart of The XX Project is an intimate monthly dinner series which brings members together for a night of conversation with some of today’s strongest and most inspiring female leaders.  But this is just the beginning. Through The XX Project, Michelle’s mission is to build an offline and online social platform that fosters inspiration, mentoring and giving back among professional, dynamic & successful women in their late 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.

Michelle and I met at Tom’s on Abbot Kinney in Venice. This hipsters’ haven serves as both the brand’s flagship store as well as one of the best coffee shops on the block. Come here any time of day, any day of the week and you’ll find the place crowded with freelancers turning the place into their makeshift offices. The comfy outdoor couches, free wi-fi, and delicious coffee and pastries are quite the draw for everyone, myself included.

Over our coffees Michelle shared how The XX Project first came to life and her big vision for where she sees it growing in the future. Powered by passion, a real desire to help, and a true confidence in what’s she building, Michelle is ready to take The XX to the next level.

To find out what all she has in store, watch our full interview and make sure to subscribe to Toast Meets Jam so you’re sure to catch all the latest episodes.

Why Snooze When You Can… | Morning Rituals

5 morning rituals that will get you out of bed

I am a night owl. I can stay up later than most people, and my love of sleep means that, historically speaking, me waking up naturally before 11am is unusual. Sleep is important to me, so I’ve always made it a priority; I would categorize that under “good self-care.” Living a freelance life means that I now have the freedom to sleep in a little later when I have to stay up to the wee hours to get work done. In the past few months, however, sleeping in late just ain’t what it used to be (hello, late 20s). Although I’m a creature of habit, part of me does want to become more of a morning person. If you’re like me and need a little boost in the AM, here are 5 rituals you can add to your morning routine that might motivate you to stop hitting the snooze button (or at least cut back to one hit).

The Songstress| An Interview with Singer/ Songwriter Missy Modell

Finding Your Beat with Singer/Songwriter Missy Modell

In this episode of Toast Meets Jam I caught up with singer/songwriter Missy Modell at one of our favorite LA hot spots- Axe. As we dug into our very Venice Basic Bowls, she caught me up on her pursuit of a career in the music industry.

At the age of 24 Missy had already established herself as a singer on the rise. Self described as the “Rihanna to an Eminem soundtrack” she had found her beat touring college campuses with other up and coming artists. Fast forward a few years and this leading lading has declared it time to pave a new path–this time one that provides a true reflection of her unabashed, fun, beautiful self.

She talks with me about her  musical journey, the process of self discovery, and why it’s time for her to take center-stage.

10 San Francisco food favorites to try at Outside Lands

    outside lands food

It seems that every year a new music festival is born somewhere in the world. Outside Lands premiered in Golden Gate Park in 2009 and, true to its culinary capital roots, one of the festival’s signature features is its outstanding selection of food. It is the one festival our crew attends at which we look forward to experiencing the eats rather than chowing down on a substantial meal to keep us going the whole day. At Outside Lands, you plan your agenda around musical acts and what you’re eating in between. There’s ChocoLands, BeerLands, Food Truck Lands, and more. Trust us, you want to be aware of all your options before you settle for something that doesn’t feed your heart as much as the next stand might. I encourage you to check out the 2014 restaurant list ahead of time. In true SF fashion, composting bins will be available; make like a local, and put your waste where it belongs. Read on for 10 San Francisco food favorites that stand out at the Park and on the streets of the city.

The Summer Concerts You Don’t Want to Miss

    summer-concerts

Last Thursday the Santa Monica Pier hosted its first Twilight Concert of the summer. Out of all the things I look forward to during these months, these beach-side concerts definitely score high on the list. It’s hard to beat cozying up with friends for a sandy sunset picnic with the sounds of waves crashing to one side and live music on the other. If you live in LA or happen to be passing through, add this to your calendar as a must-do.
