11 Not-So-Scary Halloween Movies to Watch this October

A List of  Classic Halloween Movies that Pack More Fun than Fright

    Halloween-Movies

I love Halloween for exactly two reasons. The first reason is the costumes. I absolutely love a good excuse to dress up. If I’m being honest it’s at least part of the reason I joined a sorority in college (theme party anyone?). It’s also why I was the president of the drama club in high school and why I adore my trips to Burning Man. How could you not enjoy the liberating feeling of getting to be anyone/anything you want even if just for one night? Anyone who has seen my oversized costume duffel bag can attest that I get behind themed endeavors.

The second reason I love Halloween is the candy. Though I consider myself fairly stable minded with a good head on my shoulders and a strong will, something happens when chocolate enters the room. Throw in a great excuse to eat as much of it as possible and all diet bets are off. Halloween only comes around once a year right? The snack sizes are so small! No one is counting, everyone is doing it, just one more piece won’t hurt…. Excuse word vomit takes over my brain and I’m totally okay with that in celebration of the season.

Now that we’re clear on what is good about Halloween, I can tell you that what I hate the most about the holiday is the scary movies that it brings about. If it were up to me, even the trailers to horror movies would be banned from playing in public. I catch 20 seconds of one and I can’t sleep for nights. That’s not to say however, that I don’t enjoy a good seasonal film. I just prefer that they don’t leave me cowering under the covers.

For those of you who, like me, want your Halloween movies to teeter on the tame side, I’ve compiled a list of 11 flicks that pack more fun than fright. Read on to see the list!

7 Lessons from Orange is the New Black

A Look at the Lessons We’ve Learned from Orange is the New Black

Lessons from Orange is the New Black
Today, Netflix releases the much-anticipated second season of their hit comedic drama Orange is the New Black. In a snapshot, the show fictionalizes the real-life tale of Piper Chapman, a white, middle-class woman, sentenced to 15 months in prison for her assisting her ex-girlfriend in international drug trafficking. If you haven’t yet caught season 1, we highly recommend you jump on the bandwagon.

As much as we love OITNB for its cast of outrageous characters and their snappy one-liners, we’ve also come to appreciate the depth the writers have given to their back stories. We learn what has brought each of these women to prison and watch as their lives and relationships unfold within their new confined realities. With each episode we get to know the characters a little better and grow to understands what motivates their behaviors and actions.

In getting to know these characters we’ve also recognized that there is a great deal they can teach us about our own choices. Here we take a look at 7 lessons we’ve learned from Orange is the New Black and how they apply to our lives outside the prison walls.

It Takes Two: Famous Best Friends We Love

A Look at 10 of our Favorite Famous Best Friends & What They’ve Taught Us

Best friends. We love them, we cherish them, and we couldn’t make it through life without them. In honor of the girls we call our besties we’re taking a look at the on-screen dynamic duos who have taught us a thing or two about life, love, and friendship. From TV friends to real-life friends these females remind us why we love our inner circle.

We also love these duos for not portraying women as catty and cutthroat which the media has a sad tendency to do all too often in today’s “reality” driven world. Because really, we know that true friendship is about building each other up not tearing one another down. Whether it’s a phone call in the middle of the night to talk us out of  (or into) quitting or jobs, a bar buddy for happy hour, or a cheerleader to get you through the crazy hard bootcamp you both signed up for, your best friends are the ones who are there to make your life all that much better.

It was tough to narrow down the list but here’s a look at our 10 favorite famous best friends and the lessons they’ve taught us about friendship.

September has been a crazy month, and as much fun as I’ve had traveling, catching up with friends, and executing events (basically my day job), I am looking forward to a full 48 hours of R&R. I am foregoing my original plan for a staycation, because I’m eyeing a new pair of Rag & Bone boots as a present to myself for fall. Instead, I’m planning to cozy up in my apartment, get a couple extra hours of shut-eye, read a book (has anyone read The Bone Season?), and catch-up on Netflix. While Scandal is currently streaming on my account, I’m going to do something I haven’t all year: watch a full-length movie. With a glass of wine and a giant bowl of popcorn in hand, I look forward to revisiting one of my classics.
