My sisters and I baked cupcakes regularly together growing up (never mind that they were generally of the boxed variety). My affinity for cupcakes meant endless gifts of cupcake-icon gifts: a belt, a tank top, luggage tag, rain boots, and not one but two cupcake deliveries for my birthday last year. Needless to say, when Sprinkles opened its doors I jumped on that cupcake bakery bandwagon real quick. It was one of the first stops on my list to visit when I moved to Los Angeles, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Sprinkles put cupcakes on the map, and many have followed to continue the movement of one of the best baked inventions.

To celebrate National Cupcake Day, read on to find out where our leading ladies across the country turn to curb their cupcake appetite… plus don’t miss your chance to win one of three $20 giftcards to Sprinkles!

On October 22, 2013 I crossed unfamiliar territory. I became a single woman, moved out of my ex’s house, and decided to write a piece on this fabulous blog to challenge myself to remain single. When I had mentioned the piece to friends and family, they all gave me the same response: “Yeah, good luck with that.” My ex even laughed in my face about it.

Well, ladies, I am happy to report that I failed. I dated a few times, made some promiscuous decisions, broke a few hearts and accidentally met the perfect guy.

Although I didn’t stay unattached, I did accomplish my mission to be superbly single.

Years ago when I heard Fergie’s “Clumsy,” part of the song caught my attention and made me immediately think of myself:

You know this ain’t the first time this has happened to me
    This love sick thing.
I like serious relationships, and uh
A girl like me don’t stay single for long.
‘Cause every time a boyfriend and I break up
My world is crushed and I’m all alone…
The love bug crawls right back up and bites me, and I’m back.

It has been ten years since I was last single: I was a 16-year-old at La Cueva High School, lonely after my move from the Bay Area to New Mexico. After that failed “high school sweetheart” relationship, the others fell in line one after the other with titles out of Carrie Bradshaw’s black book: “baby daddy,” “the Guatemalan,” and most recently, the “40-year-old.” All great relationships, all ending in heartbreak and tears.
