Why We Should be Proud to Call Ourselves Millennials

    millenials

This June I attended an event featuring a panel of all female millennial entrepreneurs. It was there that  I was first introduced to Asha Dahya, a pint-sized powerhouse Single Girl. Asha is the founder and editor of GirlTalkHQ, a site dedicated to “female empowerment and inspiration for millennial women”. As she told her incredible journey from Australian TV star to blogger and women’s empowerment expert I knew I there was a future collaboration meant for GTHQ and TSD.

I’m honored to say that Asha agreed. Last week she shared with us a post about the struggle she’s faced in finding her identity and the lessons that its taught her, an inspiring read you’ll definitely want to check out!  Today I’m excited to announce that our post is being featured on GirlTalkHQ.

For awhile I’d thought about writing a post about why I’m proud to be one of the millennials. I’ve met amazing people who make up this generation and are improving the world for the better. Yet, the negative anecdotes about millennials still seem to outweigh the positive ones. In defense of our generation, I’d wanted to rework the most common criticisms we receive and share the version that they translate to in my ears.

Head on over to GirlTalkHQ to see what I have to share!

    Superbly Single,

    Jen

Jordan Hamons of The Hungry Traveler Takes an Unexpected Leap from Marketing Maven to Queen of the Kitchen

    The-Hungry-Traveler

“Take the risk and pursue what you love”

The Hungry Traveler has us aching for the finer things in life. Its pages tease us with images of foods we want to feast on in places we want to add to our passports. For those of us with a passion for food and travel, the blog serves as an escape into an idealistic world we wish to inhabit.

Except that to call it idealistic wouldn’t be completely fair because the girl behind the blog, actually does live in this world. An unexpected change of events led Jordan Hamons off the road to a career in marketing onto one toward a career in the kitchen.  Lucky for us, she’s sharing the journey and her advice for other Single Girls feeling the itch to change course.

    lease

This past week I went through my nearly annual process of moving apartments. I love my new home but am thoroughly exhausted from the effort.  Let’s face it, finding the perfect place is no easy task. When you do find a place that calls your name it’s important to know exactly what you’re getting yourself into.

Over the years of moving I’ve begun to curate a list of the important things to consider when making a move. Read on for  10 of the most important questions I’d recommend you ask before signing a new lease.

How Do You Define Your Identity?

GirlTalkHQ Founder Asha Dahya opens up about the journey to find her identity

    identity

“Don’t apologize for who you are… true happiness comes from knowing your individual worth and identity”

I have been in a relationship for 31 years, which, coincidentally, is also my age. That life-long relationship has been with no one other than my identity. Sounds weird, but hear me out!

For most of my life, I’ve struggled to uncover who I am and how I want to be perceived.  Though you’d image this struggle would get easier with time, my experience has been quite the opposite. As I’ve grown older, extraneous circumstances – peer pressure, family pressure, the media, relationships with boys, my career- have threatened to break up my longest relationship and have even managed to hijack my identity at times.

When we founded The Single Diaries a year ago, we had no idea we wouldn’t be in the same city so soon. (Don’t tell me I’ve never been in a long-distance relationship.) Separation anxiety aside, we are finding one major plus to working out of two different major cities: more wine bars to frequent, more neighborhoods to explore, more dishes to discover! In honor of our new status as a bi-city blog, we bring you our favorite mainstays from San Francisco and Los Angeles.
