Single Diaries-approved products that work hard for you and work hard in the effort to defeat breast cancer.
Among the many great things about October (the start of autumn, Halloween, Columbus Day if you’re in first grade or a New Yorker), one of the most important is that it’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Most of us know someone close that has been affected by breast cancer, so it’s increasingly crucial for us to continue spreading awareness. This starts with us ladies performing regular breast exams and consulting with our doctors about any questions or concerns. Fortunately, there are myriad organizations that have dedicated themselves to the cause—ranging from spreading awareness to finding a cure. We are all in this together, and it doesn’t take a traditional donation to support this work. Look for products you would purchase anyway and, especially in the month of October, consciously choose products that go the extra step. Here is our list.
Clockwise from top:
NEST Passion Candle, $28
Once I got over my fear of matches (I was not a child fascinated by fire—I saw it as a danger and kept my interaction with it to birthdays and Christmas), I started building my candle collection. I love a good candle, and what’s better than one that gives back. This one from NEST features notes of peony, rose, sandlewood, and a hint of pittosporum, Evelyn Lauder’s beloved fragrance note. A portion of all proceeds goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.
Bobbi Brown French Pink Set, $45
Pretty in pink, this may be a compact that you use to decorate your vanity table if you want to keep that iconic pink ribbon intact. Bobbi Brown will donate $10 of this set during the month of October to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.
eos Smooth Sphere Lip Balm Breast Cancer Awareness Lip Balm Set, $7
If you haven’t tried this addicting sphere, now is the time. If you have, here is your excuse to stock up. Do your lips a favor with limited edition Fresh Watermelon and Strawberry Sorbet flavors. A portion of proceeds will benefit breast cancer research.
Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara, $22
The one thing I can’t leave the house without for a night out? Double swipes of mascara. This one is infused with Josie Maran’s famous Agran Oil (another obsession) to condition and support growth of lush, supple, healthy lashes. Josie Maran Cosmetics teamed up with City of Hope for the GOGO (Get One, Give One) Campaign; for each GOGO mascara purchased, Josie Maran will donate one mascara to a City of Hope cancer patient/survivor.
Sephora Together in Pink Hair Ties, $6
Every girl (with hair past her chin) needs hair ties. Pick up this pack of four ribbon hair ties in pink shades to support Breast Cancer Awareness.
Tweezerman 2013 Precision in Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Slant Tweezer, $22
A girl’s got to tweeze. This tweezer not only looks good (can’t say no to a Swarovski™ crystal), but it does good: $1 from the sale of each will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the CEW Cancer and Careers organizations among other charities throughout the country. Best part about a Tweezerman? Free sharpening.
Smashbox BCA Photo Finish Foundation Primer, $36
I start my make-up routine with Smashbox primer to create a smooth canvas and extend the wear of my make-up, so I was thrilled to find out my go-to was dressed up with the iconic pink ribbon. $5 from each purchase will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.
Still looking for an excuse to purchase? Buy now, gift later. It’s never to early to start shopping for Christmas presents.
