Fall in Love | Style Inspiration for the Season of Change

6 looks to get you excited for fall

There’s something magical about fall. “September is the January in fashion.” September is when school starts, and who can forget the feeling of a clean slate and a fresh notebook? I love the delightful image that Joe Fox (Tom Hanks’ character in You’ve Got Mail) gives us: a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils. It makes me want to travel to NYC every September (and that was before I even knew what Fashion Week was). In the spirit of fall, I purchased a Moleskin planner after years of relying on a digital calendar and couldn’t help but feel like my new chapter is finally starting. Now that I’m living in a city in which the temperature will actually drop below 60 before December, I’m even more excited to ring in the fall with beloved booties, defined patterns, deeper colors, and cozy sweaters. I know how much everyone loves summer, but here is your fall style inspiration. These 6 looks will make you pray for a cooler climate.

Patterned Coats + Bare Legs | Happily Grey

Fall is about transition. The afternoons may still be warm enough for bare legs, so choosing a skirt with booties and a moderate coat will give you another month to show off your vacation tan.

Crop Tops + Hot Heels | Style Scrapbook

Your summer tummy can’t go into hibernation quite yet; the crop top’s 15 minutes isn’t over. Layer on a mid-length coat or a longline cardigan to make it pumpkin spice latte appropriate, and slip your feet into those open-toe leather booties that were too sweaty for summer (hallelujah!).

Rocker Chic | Style du Monde

Who doesn’t want a little edge to their look? Pairing a graphic tee (instead of a blouse or sweater) with a pencil skirt with a leather jacket does just the trick.

Decorated Denim | Sincerely Jules

You know we love denim. This season’s blues are a little more sleek. Try a modern wash, some purposeful distress, or a full-on “print” like this polka dot.

Chunky Knits | The Urban Spotter on Who What Wear

A good chunky knit sweater is probably my favorite thing about 50-degree weather. Dress it down with thigh high socks and your coziest sleep shorts for an easy Sunday morning, or dress it up with straight leg jeans and pumps.

Textured Everything | Song of Style on The Urban Spotter

Summer calls for airy linen and light cotton. Fall allows for more play when it comes to texture. Mix it up for a ‘fit that’s street style worthy. Best part about it? You fool everyone into thinking you’re a pro at mixing patterns.

What are you looking forward to this fall?
