I get overwhelmed around Thanksgiving. Between the magazines, blogs, and cooking websites it’s hard to navigate through all of the recipes, advice, and ideas. While I get excited to try new recipes and make a huge meal, I try to restrain myself and stick to the basics. As much as I love cooking, relaxing and spending time with friends and family is way more fun. After a few years of stressing myself out, I’ve developed a list of traditional, foolproof recipes that I go back to every year.

I spend Thanksgiving with my mom and we go to dinner at my neighbor Chris’s house. We start the meal by scratching off lottery tickets and then dig into Thanksgiving staples, complemented with kielbasa and sauerkraut as a nod to my neighbor’s Polish heritage. We usually add a few new dishes that may or may not make the cut and reappear the next year. Here’s what’s going to be on my Thanksgiving table this year:

It’s only natural that we start by talking about turkey.

6 mugs to help you set your daily intention

I love rituals. Because I’m not a morning person, I came up with a few rituals to make them a little easier. One awesome piece of advice I heard recently from Arianna Huffington is to consciously avoid your phone or media as you wake up so you can set your intention for yourself every morning. When you start your day by reading emails or articles before you give yourself a few breaths, you allow someone else to set the tone of your day.

It takes a lot of discipline to achieve this, but while you’re practicing grab a physical reminder of what you set out to do every day. Here are 6 inspirational mugs to give you a daily reminder of the path you want to take. While I encouraged everyone to start their morning with a slow cup of tea, I love me a café au lait or a dirty chai latte. Pour up your caffeinated beverage of choice, and let your mug be your guide.

Defend yourself against cold & flu season with these health kit must haves

    Single Girl Health Kit

As much as I love Fall, there’s one bit of the season that always leaves me wary. It’s the thought that lingers in the back of my mind from November to May when the weather begins to warm again. I hope I don’t get sick. For, along with its gorgeous autumnal colors, sweater weather, and PSLs, Fall unfortunately also seems to carry-in infection.

It just so happens that this weekend, I found myself in my first fight against cold & flu season. Friday at the office, my sneezing fits seemed multiplied. Saturday, my headache seemed to build more than Friday’s glasses of wine should have called for. By Sunday morning, I awoke to a face heavy with congestion.

Luckily, previous seasons of sickness have left me prepared. My personal health-kit is fully stocked with items to help me defend myself from whatever is trying to take me down. I also know exactly what to reach for to keep me going, like my favorite juices from Pressed Juicery.

To make sure you’re prepared to face this cold & flu season, I’m sharing the items I keep in my personal health kit. Take a look and let me know what’s in yours!

This week I’m kicking off a new monthly series, Jen Hack’s Life Hacks. Expect this to be your new source for hot tips on how to simplify your life, find more time in your days, and increase your productivity. Each month I’ll be sharing some of the simple tricks I’ve accumulated over the years that have really made a big difference in my life.

A few years ago a friend of mine introduced me to the concept of outsourcing your life. The basic idea is to find ways to avoid having to do the things you hate in order to have more time to do the things you love. I thought this idea was absolutely brilliant and really took it to heart. Fast forward a few years and I’ve found a solution to get me out of nearly errand I’d rather not have on my to-do list. If this sounds like a good idea to you, read on to find the simple swaps I recommend you give a try!
