    Building Your Personal Brand

Creating A Personal Brand Equity Pyramid

    Personal Brand Equity Pyramid

At the heart of The Single Diaries is a genuine desire to help young women build a better relationship with themselves. In fact,  it’s why we decided upon the name The Single Diaries. Our founding belief is that the most important relationship a girl can have is the one she has with herself. It’s our mission to help our readers discover what they are passionate about, learn to tackle the things they maybe aren’t so passionate about, and embrace an unconditional love for themselves.

In the past few months we’ve encouraged you to take several steps to get to better know this very important person (You!). We kicked off the year with a lesson in building your vision board to help you visualize your dreams and aspirations. We followed with a guide for answering the question ‘What Defines Me’. And now we are bringing you a lesson in building your personal brand starting with the creation of your personal brand equity pyramid.

  • Looking for a Mentor?

    Looking for a Mentor?

Start by reassessing your definition of  mentor.

“I think I need a mentor.” How many of you have had that thought? It’s certainly a sticky idea that stays glued somewhere in the back of my mind, surfacing every so often in deep contemplation about my life and in conversations with girlfriends about the trajectory of our careers.

I’ve read countless articles about the importance of finding a mentor particularly for young women. We’re told we need this person to serve as a sounding board, a connector, and our guide through difficult life and career choices. As someone who’s recently detonated her own career foundation and begun to rebuild a new, I have without a doubt bought into the popular opinion and resolved that I do in fact need a mentor. It’s a resolution that has found its way onto my 2014 vision board and has been pulling its way to the front of my thoughts more often.

As any uber Type-A personally would, I’ve begun my quest for a mentor by doing my research and outlining a plan.  I wanted to know what types of mentors I should seek, what qualities they should embody, and how I should go about asking someone to take on this significant role.

Most of my research lead me to the same place. Look for someone who is several ladder rungs up in your industry that is successful, well-connected, and embodies where you want to be in a few years.  Then I came across something different, an approach to mentoring that stood out from the rest and particularly piqued my interest. It is called peer mentoring. (more…)

  • Single Girl Reads: Lean In

Catherine and Jacqueline discuss Sheryl Sandberg’s bestseller as it relates to generation Y, feminism, career decisions, and definitions of success

Catherine’s review: Well-written and well-researched. You may think that you get the gist from her TEDTalk, but there is so much more to Sandberg’s words. Thought-provoking and discussion inducing… A must-read for women as well as for men. I can’t wait to discuss with others who’ve read.

Jacqueline’s review: Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In is kind of like a pep talk for women. She argues to believe in yourself, “lean in,” and trust you can have it all. I love how she asks, “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?” But sometimes it’s not that easy. However, we all could use a personal cheerleader every now and then. So that’s how I see the book, as a pick-me-up when you need a little push.

Jacqueline and I got together over Google Hangout for a two-person book club discussion about Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead. Despite the limited scope of opinions, Sandberg’s content prompted some disagreement and controversy.
