Honestly, how could you resists a naturally no-fat, no-sugar-added, dairy-free alternative to regular ice cream? The greatest part of all is that the flavor opportunities are endless.

To start you off on your journey toward vegan ice cream heaven I’m sharing a few quick steps to create your basic banana nice cream base.

Start with very ripe bananas. They should be sufficiently spotting but not to the point that they’ve gone mushing. Peel, slice into chunks, and freeze. When you’re ready to whip up your banana ice cream, simply toss your frozen banana chunks into a blender and off you go.

>> Change the Flavor

You could leave your banana nice cream plain and simple with no other ingredients and that would work just fine. However, if you decide you want to get fancy with it simply add your choice of flavorings into the blender with your bananas. I’ve found that ingredients that are best added during the blending process are extracts (think vanilla, almond, peppermint), other frozen fruits (berries and mangos work well), milk (unsweetened vanilla almond milk is my pick), and nut butters.

Serve it up Sunday style or layer multiple nice cream flavors with your choice of toppings in a parfait glass.
