5 Single Girl summer goals to accomplish before the end of the season
Right before the official start of summer, Jen rounded up some of our favorite things of the season—a list of to-do’s and items to make your summer more festive. This year we’ve emphasized the importance of goals, but if you’re like us and your world has recently been turned upside down (hopefully for the better) you may have lost track of what you set out to do in 2014. At the end of January, we took a look at your Single Girl Goals and shared some themes that resonated throughout your boards. We love to celebrate victories big and small (heck, we love to find the celebration in everything!), so I found another great excuse for you. Read on for challenges you can set for yourself this month, inspired by your 2014 goals, before our season of sun is over… then pat yourself on the back for your tiny wins.
Goal: “Go to more shows.”
Your Challenge: Go to a concert, go to a movie, see a play, visit a museum. Go somewhere to see live creativity, and feed off the energy and inspiration around you. When you lose yourself in a moment, you just might learn something new.
Goal: “Take a photography class.”
Your Challenge: Practice makes perfect. Take your camera out, and simply snap more pictures. If harnessing your photography skills isn’t a top priority, make it a goal to capture the last month of summer in a unique way. Disposable camera, anyone?
Goal: “Wander around more. Discover.”
Your Challenge: Always take the same route home? Try walking down a different street. That neighborhood cafe you’ve been wanting to visit? Stop by for a treat. Have a free weekend? Drive to a nearby town or city you’ve never made the time to visit. You grow every time you experience new. It doesn’t have to be big; just take the time to look around and see the world through a different perspective.
Goal: “You’re gonna read; why not on the beach?”
Your Challenge: We all know how much I love to read, so taking a few hours out of the day to read a book in a new place (be it beach, cafe, or park) is my idea of fresh air relaxation. For you it may be doing a cross word puzzle, walking your dog, meditating, or eating a cookie. Take that normal activity and infuse it with summer soul by taking it to a fun outdoor space.
Goal: “Make my soul happy.”
Your Challenge: Here is your mid-year reminder to avoid burning out. Time is our most limited resource. Take one of those sick days, and use it to do something that makes your soul happy. Take a morning yoga class on the beach. Spend time with your grandparents or your niece and nephew. Paint. Go on a hike that is always crowded on weekends. People watch everyone else going to work. Your work will be right where you left it, and maybe you’ll recognize: you are much bigger than the title on your email signature.
