    Catherine’s Fall Reading List 2014

    fall reading list
I have a nerd confession to make: During my college years, I would visit my high school’s website for their English classes’ summer reading requirements. These along with the books I never got around to reading (though I managed to pretend I did) became part of my growing “to-read” list. For book lovers, choosing one has much to do with your atmosphere, where you are in life, and what you need from the book you choose. Perhaps it’s just me but as the temperatures start to drop (perhaps figuratively in California), I am looking for a paperback with impact—one that might change me in some way with its story or with its composition. These kind of books require undivided attention: read from your your in-home reading nook, a quiet park bench, or on your long commute. Here’s my reading list for the fall, some that have been on my list for a while, some that I’ve read before, all highly recommended.

Why Snooze When You Can… | Morning Rituals

5 morning rituals that will get you out of bed

I am a night owl. I can stay up later than most people, and my love of sleep means that, historically speaking, me waking up naturally before 11am is unusual. Sleep is important to me, so I’ve always made it a priority; I would categorize that under “good self-care.” Living a freelance life means that I now have the freedom to sleep in a little later when I have to stay up to the wee hours to get work done. In the past few months, however, sleeping in late just ain’t what it used to be (hello, late 20s). Although I’m a creature of habit, part of me does want to become more of a morning person. If you’re like me and need a little boost in the AM, here are 5 rituals you can add to your morning routine that might motivate you to stop hitting the snooze button (or at least cut back to one hit).

Women to Watch- Inc Women’s Summit 2014

You’ll Want to Add these Inspiring Speakers of the Inc Women’s Summit to Your Radar

    Inc-Womens-Summit

If there was one conference I could attend before the end of the year it would be the Inc Women’s Summit. By the looks of the knock out panel of speakers and impressive agenda, this one day event promises to serve up an inspiration overload. The summit is a meeting of some of the most influential female minds in business today. These women come from a variety of backgrounds, hold many different passions, and have achieved accomplishments from which we can all learn.

For me, the greatest source of motivation is seeing the success of others, particularly of other women. As millennial women I think there is a lot that we can learn simply by observing those whom we admire. When I had a look at the lineup of featured guests I was happy to see a mix of names I recognized along with a few that were new to me.  In lieu of actually attending the event, I thought a reasonable alternative would be to learn what I could about these women and their lessons in success.

Though the full lineup consists of 11 speakers (including 2 men), four particularly stood out to me for the breadth of industries and experiences they represented. These women were:

    • Jennifer Fleiss of Rent the Runway
    • Juia Hartz of Eventbrite
    • Angela Benton of NewMe and
    • Leila Janah of Sama Group

Read on to learn more about each of these badass ladies and why you should pay attention to the trails their blazing.
